Assessment: Why, When, What, How?

Workshop Overview

This workshop is designed to support teachers to make the important assessment decisions for students. This will enable teachers to understand and develop engaging and authentic assessment tasks, understand the key principles of assessment and how they are connected and develop strategies to improve the quality of assessment practices in the classroom. The key areas of focus will be:

  • How do you develop authentic assessment tasks in your subject area to engage students?
  • How do you design and integrate diagnostic and formative assessment?
  • How do you ensure that assessment tasks are valid and reliable?
  • How do you develop rubrics for valid and reliable assessment?

Angela Johnson

Angela Johnson has over 20 years of classroom and leadership experience, in both American and international curriculum contexts. She has taught both IB MYP and DP English Language & Literature since 2009 and currently serves as MYP Coordinator at an IB World School in London. Angela’s areas of expertise include inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, authentic assessment, and interdisciplinary teaching and learning. In addition to her school-based role, Angela is also an active member of IBEN and a textbook author and content creator.
