Workshop Overview
Creative, concept-based teaching engages the intellect and emotions of a student to a higher degree than a more traditional curriculum. This helps students to transfer their understanding across subjects. They are better equipped to make connections to their own experiences and the wider world, both now and when looking to the future. In this course, participants will get a deeper understanding of Concept-based teaching and how it allows students to make connections and transfer understanding from one context to another. The course will explore planning and assessment practices from Lynn Erickson and Wiggins & McTighe to support concept development. We will use that understanding to create a unit plan bridging the gap between Erickson’s theory and practice and look at practical strategies to support your written, taught and assessed curriculum.
