Empowering teachers to foster writing excellence across the curriculum

Workshop Overview

This workshop is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge and tools necessary to explicitly and systematically teach writing, including the integral role that grammar plays in effective writing. The workshop covers major forms of writing used across the curriculum and demonstrates how to break down the teaching of writing into small, manageable segments. In addition to teaching writing strategies, teachers will also learn how to develop a metalanguage for teaching writing that can be easily carried across to a whole-school approach.

Assessment is an integral part of the learning process, and the workshops will provide teachers with the tools to assess their students’ writing using success criteria. This approach will enable teachers to build a robust writing programme tailored to the unique needs and abilities of their students. The workshop will focus on empowering teachers to create a positive writing culture in their classrooms and schools, where writing is valued, celebrated, and viewed as an essential skill for success. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have a deeper understanding of the writing process, best practices for teaching writing, and the confidence to foster excellence in writing among their students.
