Interdisciplinary teaching and learning

Workshop Overview

Major global challenges are interdisciplinary by nature. The solutions to such challenges: poverty, climate change, pandemics or inequality can be found through interdisciplinary thinking. Students need to learn more about integrating and applying knowledge and skills from different subject areas. This workshop focuses on developing a shared teaching philosophy for interdisciplinary teaching. In this workshop we will consider the nature and benefits of interdisciplinary learning and explore ways to plan, teach and assess interdisciplinarity. Participants will begin to plan their own teaching units over the course of the workshop. The key areas of focus will be:

  • What is interdisciplinary learning
  • How do you plan, teach and assess interdisciplinarity?
  • What is the role of Inquiry and collaborative learning to develop an interdisciplinary unit?
  • How do you develop meaningful interdisciplinary assessment tasks?
