Early Years Workshops, May, July and August 2022

Date: August 25, 2022 To support the professional learning needs of early years educators, we offered a series of workshops to support our youngest learners in school.

The first workshop Inquiry: fostering children’s natural drive to learn offered in the month of May was attended by enthusiastic educators from all around the country. The aims of this workshop experience were to educate, equip and cheer on all teachers in the Early Years using hands-on activities that can be taken directly to class.

In the second workshop P.L.A.Y: Powerful Learning Authentically Yearlong the participants learnt the theory behind play and also how to analyse PLAY and plan for it. During each session we unpacked layers of play because play is complicated and there is so much to gain from it. Our participants were active, and some started implementing changes from the first day to strengthen, enrich and practice their new learnings.

During the third workshop Informed teaching: documenting, assessing learning and planning in the Early Years the participants first learnt the difference between observing and testing, and the richness of observation has for seeing the whole child development. After which they wrote professional observations and learnt how to use that data in planning and teaching. Our participants loved to hear about other school’s observation and learnt from each other’s points of view and practices.

Sharing snapshot of participants feedback:

I attended the Inquiry: fostering children’s natural drive to learn workshop by Elvira. The Workshop was engaging and gave practical ideas that can be transacted in a classroom. The workshop leader was extremely helpful and went beyond the scope of the session to share ideas and material.

Elvira and Priyamvada both took us on a journey to understand P.L.A.Y deeply. The workshop was enriching and brought me new insights about the concept which I will surely keep in mind and use in my classroom.

It has been a pleasure to have attended a fun interactive training program focusing on the purpose of Play in a child’s life. Everyone was happily motivated to engage in self-reading, collaborative tasks, discussion, and sharing of thoughts, inspiring each other to create impactful learning for younger children. The program helped me come back with more confidence about my teaching practices, and I look forward to staying connected for more learning experiences.

Had a great experience with the workshop…play is definitely the work of children. Elvira’s workshop inspired me to bring more play back to our happy kindergarten space we should not sacrifice discovery and critical thinking skills that arise through play in favour of academics. Thank you so much for this wonderful workshop.
