Storyline: Project based learning (PBL) with a twist

Workshop Overview

The Storyline approach, a method for active learning, was developed by Steve Bell, Sallie Harkness and Fred Rendell at Jordanhill College of Education in Glasgow, Scotland. It uses the power of stories to help students connect to their learning, creating a meaningful context through which students can acquire new knowledge, build conceptual understanding and work towards mastering particular skills. As the unit develops, students record their ideas, understandings and responses in visual and written formats by creating powerful classroom displays as well as individual files of work. In this workshop, we will look at how to structure a Storyline experience, how to prioritize content, how to craft assessments and how to provide opportunities for student reflection and publishing.
