Workshop Overview
This workshop is designed to support experienced educators, mentors, and instructional leaders in deepening their coaching practice with a specific focus on fostering innovation in teaching. Rooted in relational trust, courageous inquiry, and reflective dialogue, the workshop will explore how coaching can be a powerful lever for cultivating a culture of experimentation and continuous growth within schools.
Participants will examine the unique challenges and opportunities that come with mentoring teachers towards more innovative and learner-centred approaches—especially in contexts where risk-taking may feel unfamiliar or unsupported. Through real-world case studies, interactive reflection, and structured coaching simulations, attendees will explore practical strategies for helping teachers navigate ambiguity, shift mindsets, and embrace creative problem-solving in their pedagogy.
The workshop will introduce participants to research-informed coaching models and frameworks that support both developmental and transformational coaching. Emphasis will be placed on building psychological safety, using questioning to unlock teacher agency, and aligning innovation goals with school-wide priorities. Particular attention will be paid to the role of the mentor/coach as both a trusted guide and a strategic provocateur—someone who invites teachers to see beyond what currently is, and imagine what could be.
Participants will have time to engage in peer coaching, plan personalised coaching cycles, and reflect on their own professional identity as coaches for innovation.
