Workshop Overview
Creative, concept-based teaching engages both the intellect and emotions of students, allowing them to move beyond memorization and toward deeper understanding. By focusing on transferable concepts rather than isolated facts, students are better equipped to connect their learning across subjects, make sense of their personal experiences, and engage meaningfully with the world around them—both now and in the future.
This workshop is designed to help educators understand what concepts are, how they differ from facts and skills, and how they serve as powerful tools for transfer. Participants will explore the relationship between concept-based learning and inquiry, using hands-on strategies to design engaging learning experiences that foster critical thinking and student agency.
Through reflection and collaboration, educators will examine how to frame questions to support inquiry and conceptual understanding. Drawing from a range of educational frameworks, the workshop will offer practical guidance on planning concept-driven units, developing assessments that capture conceptual growth, and implementing inquiry-based strategies that support students in constructing meaning. Educators will leave with the tools and confidence to create rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning environments where students are empowered to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and apply their understanding beyond the classroom.
